[ Bucky chafes when he's not working with Steve, when someone else is "handling" him. No one can handle him, not really, and no one knows all his subtle cues like Steve. They were practically raised together; there's no substitute for that. Anyone not-Steve tries to put a leash on Bucky, tug on the chain, bring him to heel.

Bucky heels for no one.

And he has no time for power trips, either, contrary to the norm. Hydra recruits are notoriously ambitious, always trying to climb to the top, but Bucky refuses to be the rung they use to do it. And if someone should be so foolish as to think they can own the Winter Soldier... ]

[ the world still thinks him dead, a war hero given to the ice in service of his country. It wasn't fun falling off that damn train, not by a country mile, but Hydra has operatives everywhere and he was quickly salvaged. What seemed like a curse actually allowed him to do his best work, without the oversight of prying eyes. But it keeps him from Steve a lot, and that...well, it chafes.

He can't wait to get all this nervous energy out. They haven't done field work together in a long time. It's guaranteed to be swift, efficient, and brutal. Just the kind of adrenaline rush Bucky's looking for. ]
